[New on the permaweb]

Here are some highlights of the awesome new apps built on the permaweb this month:

📚 ArAcademic

Winner of the Decentralised Academic Publishing Portal bounty, ArAcademic is a ÐApp for publishing academic articles that are freely available for anyone in the world to use. Publish a manuscript on any device!

💰 Million dollar page

Remember the million dollar homepage? Well, now there is a million dollar perma-home page! Buy pixels by HODLing Arweave tokens and put your advertisement on the perma-wall. Biddlers are go!

🕊️ Permabird

Permabird is a bot you can use to store tweets about a given subject permanently on Arweave’s Blockchain, in real-time. All you need is an AR wallet, your Twitter API credentials and Node.js.

[Hackathons]

Congratulations to our Devpost ‘Building the permaweb’ winner Sergej Mueller, with ArVault. ArVault securely stores and manages website credentials on the Arweave blockchain, with a focus on privacy and security. All passwords are client-side encrypted by OAEP algorithm and the Arweave wallet key file is the key to the Arweave Vault. It even features a night mode, pretty neat! Check it out here.

Active bounties:

Build and run a Permafeed: Data Feed Archiving Competition

This contest is to build and run a bot that will archive a data stream for a month (or as long as you can, if you start later). The data can be anything you like but will be judged on its potential usefulness to others. Find out more here.

Stay tuned for more upcoming bounties and hackathons on our bounties GitHub portal.

[Arweave in the wild]

A month ago we announced that a16z crypto, Union Square Ventures, and Multicoin Capital have joined the community of long-term AR token holders. Check out these blog posts from Multicoin and USV to find out what they had to say about this.

The news was later covered in the leading media outlets, such as TechCrunch, VentureBeat, Coindesk, The Block, Cointelegraph, and many others.

[Community spotlight]

Ever wondered who’s behind all the awesome apps being built on the permaweb?! With our community spotlight series, you can get to know a little more about the people behind the hacking and learn what motivates them to join, build, and share their creations within the permaweb. In our most recent series you can meet Mike: Seasoned software developer, day trader, and all-round-multi-talented BUIDLR who enjoys crafting his own musical instruments, building software, and exploring the possibilities of blockchain technology.

If you’re a permaweb developer and would like to take part in our upcoming community spotlight series, drop us a line!

[Network]

In November, the number of monthly transactions increased by 106% compared to October, while monthly data upload grew by 13%. Notably, however, this month the network encountered a small incident of transaction spam.

Remember that you can always check up on Arweave’s key performance indicators on the network’s block explorers.

This month saw the release of N.1.9.1.0, with the following new features and improvements:

- Transaction priority queue
This feature seeks to optimize transaction propagation. The goals are to maximize the utility for miners and stay within the resource limits (network bandwidth, RAM).

- Optimized transaction propagation
The number of outgoing connections for propagating transactions is now capped globally, not on a per-transaction basis.
