In our latest community spotlight, we meet Rekpero: BUIDLR of the Twitter-style-location-based permaweb platform AR Neighbour, and member of the Arweave community fund DAO. A keen explorer of blockchain, Rekpero tells us why he enjoys building blockchain applications, and what he envisions for the future of decentralisation. Read on to find out more:

Software Engineer

What do you like to do with your spare time?

I usually enjoy listening to music and building great products with my team for various bounties and hackathons.

How did you find out about the Arweave permaweb?

I found Arweave through the Open Web Hackathon on Gitcoin, and became interested in building apps on permaweb — I feel the concept can bring many technological breakthroughs.

What piqued your interest in decentralisation and the blockchain space and when?

I am interested in keeping up to date with the latest technology and I’m also very keen on experimenting with various domains. During my last year of graduation, I discovered blockchain through a YouTube channel and began learning about many groundbreaking technologies and innovations within the space.

Why did you choose to build AR Neighbour?

AR Neighbour is a Twitter-style platform that allows you to post, search and tip location-based content. I built AR Neighbour as a part of the DevPost hackathon, however I missed the deadline and later submitted it in the Open Web Hackathon. I was intrigued by how the Arweave technology works, and how simple it is to integrate. The developer support within the community was also quite awesome!

You are also a member of ARCA, the first Arweave community fund DAO. Tell us more about your role and what you envision for the DAO!

I have been following progress within the ARCA community and future development plans look very promising. I don’t currently have any set plans for the DAO, however I am interested in contributing with my expertise in any way that will help the progression of the project — offering support and guidance towards any challenges.

What other communities are you a part of?

I’m also part of the Ethereum developer and Gitcoin communities, as these communities have shown tremendous work and progress within the blockchain space, making it more accessible for widespread adoption. Some other interesting projects I am exploring are: MakerDAO, Kyber, Compound, bZx, Aave, and of course, Arweave!

If you could build any Dapp, what would it be and why?

In an era where censorship-free access to information is more important than ever, I am looking forward to building applications where people can determine the value of their information. So far, I have yet to find one solution to tackle this challenge, although I will continue to find a way to build more valuable decentralised platforms.

What does a decentralised future look like to you?

Decentralisation is a digital revolution that empowers projects, without the need for a central entity. As more people understand the need for censorship-free access to data and information, the more powerful and advanced the technologies will become. I am looking forward to being part of this progression and contributing to this mission by building some great applications.
